Introduction
Welcome to Astor Creek Golf & Country Club!
I am excited for you to experience the 18-hole playground that we have thoughtfully created … a golf course that was designed with a focus on the elements of beauty, variety, interest and fun. From my perspective, the best golf courses provide strategic options from one shot to the next and allow golfers to choose their path from tee to green. The course at Astor Creek Golf & Country Club has been crafted with this objective in mind. The use of “easy and hard angles” is a theme that is present at each hole. The hard angles provide the interest, challenge and excitement for the expert golfer, while the easy angles provide the playability and fun for the novice golfer. The layout features a variety of fun and interesting holes that will keep you engaged from one shot to the next! The course can be played from 3,653 to 6,903 yards and was designed to be accessible and playable for all levels of golfers.
I hope that you enjoy your golfing experience at Astor Creek Golf & Country Club and want to play the course over and over again.
Have FUN and play well!

Meet the golf course architect. A second-generation golf industry professional, Christopher Wilczynski formed C.W. Golf Architecture after two decades of award-winning service with legendary Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates. Since 2010, he and his team have been responsible for the creation and renovation of more than 60 courses and golf facilities, including many designs celebrated by inclusion in “best courses” lists by Golf Digest and Golf Advisor . Chris’s design philosophy is to harness the natural beauty of a location to give golfers of all levels an enjoyable and memorable experience and ultimately, the urge to play more golf. That focus on playability has been impressively realized for golfers at Astor Creek Golf & Country Club.

8 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #1 — “Out to Play” PAR 4 | 426-241 YARDS
The first hole reminds the golfer to have fun during the golfing journey at Astor Creek. The ideal tee shot for this medium-length par 4 is down the left side of the hole and as close as possible to the bunkers flanking the dogleg. Play from this location provides an open, unobstructed shot to the left-to-right angled green that is sloped from front to back. A tee shot down the right edge of the hole will result in an obstructed view over a bunker that sits 25 yards short right of the green. Two good shots will get things started with a nice score and, hopefully, a fun round on the course!

Hole #2 — “Surprise Redan” PAR 3 | 148-70 YARDS
The shortest par three presents deception and the feeling of surprise. The putting surface is hidden from the tees by a broad ridge and deep bunkers to the front left and right sides of the green. The largest green on the golf course slopes 4-5' downhill from left to right and subtly from front to back. The green design is a rendition of the redan golf architectural template hole that provides the opportunity to bounce the tee shot onto the green surface and allow the slope to carry the ball to the pin. Aim left of the flag and let the redan feature provide a pleasant surprise.
12 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #3 — “Astor Biarritz” PAR 4 | 447-265 YARDS
The setting for the Astor Biarritz, the longest par 4 on the front nine, is complemented by a long linear waste bunker that flanks the left side of the fairway and a large sprawling oak tree that protects the right side of the hole. The tee shot should be played down the left side of the crowned fairway along the edge of the meandering waste bunker. The low-lying green has a deep trough or Biarritz that bisects the center from left to right, creating three distinct sections or cupping plateaus.

Hole #4 — “Double S” PAR 5 | 552-275 YARDS
The first par 5 provides a classic “Double S” design feature where the hole turns first from left to right, right to left, and then back again from left to right. Navigating the hazards that define the turns of the hole is critical to scoring well on this dynamic three-shot hole. A large lake defines the first turn from left to right. Playing aggressively over the shoulder of the lake provides the shortest distance from tee to green. The next turn is defined by a long meandering grass face that is angled from right to left and impacts the decision of where to place the second shot.
16 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #5 — “Next Decision” PAR 4 | 360-196 YARDS
The best golf holes require a decision to be made from one shot to the next. The fifth hole, epitomizes this standard as the club selection and the location to place the tee shot are critical to go low on this short and dynamic par four. The decision to drive the green must factor in the waste bunker that bisects the back of the fairway landing area and the three bunkers that flank the perched green. The ideal decision is to play down the left side of the fairway along the edge of the waste bunker. From this location, the green is open and receptive to a short pitch.

Hole #6 — “The Reflection” PAR 3 | 171-83 YARDS
The second par three on the front nine wraps from right to left around a beautiful lake that reflects the green and challenge that awaits. The Reflection is stunning, but the challenge to choose the right club and find the proper section of the green is daunting. The right-to-left angled green is high in the front but lower in the back. The back half of the green is partially hidden from the tee. Two bunkers guard the left side of the putting surface and the angle of the tee shot across the lake. Getting up and down from off the green will require great touch and precision.
20 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #7 — “Sling Shot” PAR 4 | 429-218 YARDS
The seventh hole requires a left-to-right slinging tee shot that skirts the bold fairway bunker that anchors the inside of the dogleg. Challenging the bunker shortens the length of the hole and provides the best angle into the broad, subtly undulating putting surface. Slinging the tee shot to the left will require navigating the small pot bunker at the back of the landing area and the added distance into the green. The approach angle from the left will bring the lake into play, while the angle from the right provides a comfortable line and a much shorter shot.

ASTOR CREEK | 23
Hole #8 — “Long Water” PAR 5 | 566-318 YARDS
From the tee, a lake abuts the left side of the hole from tee to green. The ideal tee shot is down the left center of the hole and across the fairway bunker that sits at the front of the landing area. A tee shot that misses to the right will contend with the bunker to the back right of the landing area. At the second landing area are two bunkers that are set on an oblique angle from left to right. The ideal line of play into the deep green surface is from the right side, near the cross bunkers.
24 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #9 — “Keep Left” PAR 4 | 382-194 YARDS
The best advice at the ninth hole is to keep it left off the tee, as the green is partially hidden by a large mound and a collection of grass hollows. Playing along the edge of the three fairway bunkers that frame the landing area provides a great view into the concave- shaped green that falls away slightly from front to back. Bouncing the approach shot onto the green surface is an option, as most of the perimeter slopes feed into the green. The green is one of the best complexes on the course as a large waste bunker wraps the back and right sides.

Hole #10 — “To the Back” PAR 4 | 414-185 YARDS
From the tee, the left side of the hole is open and inviting. The right side of the hole is punctuated by three large and deep fairway bunkers. Playing close to the bunkers provides an open look into the convex green complex that is raised several feet above the fairway. A deep greenside bunker guards the left side of the putting surface. The right side of the green is flanked by a broad chipping area. Playing down the left side of the hole may appear like the safe route, but the second shot into the green will be from an awkward perspective.
28 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #11 — “Double Palm” PAR 4 | 339-179 YARDS
Double Palm refers to the two palms that are located within the waste bunker that runs up the left side of the hole from the tees to the fairway landing area. Challenging the left side of the waste bunker and playing left of the palms will create an open short pitch to the smallest green on the golf course. Playing right of the double palms to the wide section of the fairway will result in a longer approach shot that has to be played over the lake that guards the right side of the intimate green complex.

Hole #12 — “Astoria Punchbowl” PAR 3 | 205-84 YARDS
Playing over 200 yards, Astoria Punchbowl features a green that sits in a bowl below the high-sloped mounds that wrap the perimeter of the complex. The banks of the mounds can be used to funnel shots into the punchbowl and onto the green. Errant tee shots may end up on the putting surface even if they are not on line with the green. A medium size bunker guards the front left section of the green. The back right pin will be the most challenging to access, as it is hidden from the tee because of the broad mound that rests along the right side of the hole.
32 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #13 — “Meander” PAR 5 | 522-310 YARDS
The shortest par five at Astor Creek, the broad undulating fairway meanders along a beautiful lake that borders the right side of the hole. The tee shot needs to avoid the lake and the small pot bunker within the center of the fairway. The second shot should be played as close as possible to the waste bunker that runs down the right side of the fairway. There is plenty of space to the left, but shots played into the green from this side of the hole will be completely obstructed by the large undulating landforms that sit along this side of the green.

ASTOR CREEK | 35
Hole #14 — “Deception” PAR 4 | 434-237 YARDS
Deception is the longest par 4 on the back nine and also the most dangerous hole. Playing over the deceptively placed bunker and up the left side of the fairway provides the best angle into the bowed green. The challenge will be to stay out of the lake. Playing to the green from the right side of the hole will be difficult as the green is obscured from view because of the ridge and bunker that sits 75 yards to the front right of the green. The green is bowed or low in the center, with a high plateau on the left and a long uphill slope on the right.
36 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #15 — “Short Horseshoe” PAR 3 | 157-70 YARDS
Special one-shot holes epitomize great golf courses, and the fifteenth, named Short Horseshoe, is one of those holes. This medium-length par three plays over a sprawling horseshoe-shaped bunker to a large, rumbled green. The large horseshoe bunker guards three of the four sides of the putting surface. Well-struck tee shots will find the center of the green, but most miss-hit shots will end up in the horseshoe. Taking one extra club and playing to the back right side of the green will help avoid a high score. This will be one of the holes that you will look forward to playing over and over.

ASTOR CREEK | 39
Hole #16 — “Astounding Beauty” PAR 5 | 573-340 YARDS
The strongest par 5 on the course is also the most astounding and beautiful. The largest waste bunker at Astor Creek runs down the entire length of the left side of the hole. The lake does creep into the right side of the second landing area, but it does not impact the tee shot. Two small pot bunkers define the line off the tee. Landing safely within the second landing area is a challenge, given the three randomly placed fairway bunkers. Playing near the lake and over the bunkers on the right side of the hole creates the best angle into the large sweeping green.
40 | COURSE GUIDE
Hole #17 — “Hogback” PAR 4 | 393-179 YARDS
This medium-length hole requires a straight tee shot between the fairway bunkers and the copses of palm trees that flank the left and right sides of the landing area. The green stretches across a hogback-shaped ridge that is perched several feet above the fairway. Finding the putting surface will be difficult as the green is surrounded by tightly mowed grass that may propel shots away from the intended target. Within the green is a secondary and smaller hogback that separates the right side of the green from the left and middle sides. Landing safely on the green surface and navigating the hogback will require precision and excellent shot-making.

ASTOR CREEK | 43
Hole #18 — “The Waldorf” 385-209 YARDS
The eighteenth hole requires a courageous tee shot over the corner of the lake to the narrow landing that is guarded by a small bunker on the left and a large sprawling bunker on the right. Anything left off the tee will more than likely find the bunker or water. But missing right off the tee will result in a blind and dangerous approach to a green that is protected on the left with bunkers and water. The green surface is crowned and flanked by short grass along the right and back sides. Getting up and down from the outside of the green will be tricky.
